  • Comprehensive Internal Medicine consultation by a Board Certified Veterinary Internist, including a tailored patient specific summary with recommendations.
  • Physical examination
  • Review of the patient’s history, laboratory results and radiographs.
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Thoracic mass ultrasound
  • Ultrasound guided fine needle aspirate and Tru-cut biopsy
  • Ultrasound guided transurethral aspirate/biopsy
  • Arthrocentesis – joint fluid tap
  • Bone marrow biopsy and aspirate
  • Soft tissue/musculoskeletal ultrasound

It is common for Internal Medicine Specialists (Internists) to perform ultrasounds, sometimes even heart ultrasounds (echocardiograms). Dr. Foster performs ultrasounds but does not perform echocardiograms. Dr. Foster is not a Board Certified Radiologist or Cardiologist.

Another example of overlapping services are Internists who provide chemotherapy instead of a Board Certified Oncologist. Many Internists manage chemotherapy patients although there are Board Certified Oncologist in the Toronto area.

Do not hesitate to ask your veterinarian for further clarification or for a referral to a particular specialist if you have any questions. There are many multi-modal Veterinary Referral Centre's in Toronto and area, as well as the University of Guelph, Ontario Veterinary College.
